Overview of Sillimanite Sand

Sillimanite (Al₂SiO₅) is a naturally occurring aluminosilicate mineral with high refractory properties. It is a natural mullitie giving it high stability at high tempratures making it  ideal and highly valuable for the refractory and ceramic industry.

Properties of Sillimanite Sand

• High alumina content (56–59%)

• Excellent heat resistance

• Low thermal expansion

• High refractoriness (over 1750°C)

• Chemical stability in various environments

Uses of Sillimanite Sand

1. Refractory Industry: Used in manufacturing of high-temperature-resistant refractory bricks and castables for furnaces, kilns, and other high heat bearing structures.
   

2. Ceramics: It is used to produce high-performance ceramics for electrical and mechanical applications.
   

3. Glass Manufacturing: Sillimanite sand is used in the production of glass tanks and furnace linings.
   

4. Foundry Industry: It's applied as a molding material for casting metals at high temperatures.
